with Adam Pugh In the seventh Fit For Summer column in the series, 30-year-old personal trainer Adam Pugh, based at Impact Boxing gym, in Brocksford Street, Fenton, demonstrates the ‘dumbell pushup and row’ – a gym move that is sure to get you looking great in any swimsuit as it banishes big bellies and ‘bingo-wing’ arms by working on your core stomach muscles and abdominals, as well as toning your chest and arms. Make it tougher by either increasing the weight or the number of repetitions that you do.
1. Grip the dumbells and get in the press up position with your arms straight and feet slightly wider than shoulder width.
2. Do a complete press up beginning from the up position, making sure you keep your back straight on the way down and back up again. Breathe out as you sink down, and in as you come back up.
3. Now lift your right elbow towards the ceiling, holding the weight, until your elbow passes your torso, then lower.
